I made a massive discovery a few weeks ago.

I was leading a coaching call for my Self Mastery School. During our conversation, one of the members shared his uncertainty about his next step in life.

He had a few options he could pursue—putting his full focus on his passion, building more relationships, or finding a part time job.

After coming to a conclusion, he said, “I think I just need to spend some more time going all in on my passion. Then maybe I can figure it out from there.”

In that moment, I noticed a pattern.

This person has been on many calls. And every time we are working through his problems, he uses the words, “I think
” to make decisions about what to do next.

But he would never fully follow through with them.

It was the biggest “aha” moment for me.

Every time you say “I think I’m going to”, you' are giving yourself a pass.

An excuse to not fully commit to ANYTHING that is difficult.

“I think” allows you to make excuses to yourself, and alleviates any responsibility you have to show up and actually do what you said you’re gonna do.

Because if you only “thought” about doing it, it’s technically not a lie to yourself.

I noticed that I do this sometimes too, especially when there’s a task that might take tons of mental and physical fortitude to conquer.

Notice how often you use the words, “I think” before you decide to commit to something.

And start to change “I think”, to “I will”.

When you say “I will”, you are keeping a promise to yourself. And breaking a promise to yourself has far worse consequences than thinking you might do something.

I don’t know if you’ll ever fully commit to anything if you don’t start transforming these two words.

Become aware of this pattern, transform it, and watch how you start showing up more consistently in all areas of your life.

If you’ve been using “I think I will” for years, it’s likely you’ve already broken many promises to yourself.

And broken promises are the difference between someone who is flaky and unreliable, and resilient and confident.

If you want to become the person who can rely on themselves to do the hard things they set out to do, you might find value in my Self Mastery School.
