Why You Should Pursue Multiple Interests
Don't pigeonhole yourself. Do this instead.
We put your money to work
Betterment’s financial experts and automated investing technology are working behind the scenes to make your money hustle while you do whatever you want.
Jack Of All Trades, Master Of None?
Elderly people are often a great resource for wisdom.
But in a world that changes as fast as social media trends, sometimes, old knowledge cannot be applied as wisdom to the modern world.
“Jack of all trades, Master of none” is one of those pieces of knowledge.
This statement—which discourages you from exploring many pursuits to instead become exceptional in just one—may have been useful when the world wasn’t as complex.
But we live in a different era.
We now have the tools to gain information at an unprecedented rate. We can literally learn how to learn faster, and we can aquire skills at a faster pace.
Therefore, it’s probably in your best interest to become adept at several things, rather than a master of one.
For example, becoming a content creator has allowed me to almost guarantee that I have enough skills to be able to pursue many different career paths (if i was to ever stop making YouTube videos.)
I am (technically) a writer, a producer, a cinematographer, an editor, and a marketer.
There’s most likely a pursuit you can follow that can act in a similar way that content creation acts to me.
An overarching skill that has many different lucrative mini skills branching out of it.
In this way, you’re less likely to get bored as well, and can explore all different kinds of avenues.
Think of it like a diversified portfolio (like the one built for you by the ad above.) In case of any rainy seasons, you know you’ll always be safe because you didn’t invest too heavily in just one area.
Is it important to distinguish yourself through high-level competency?
Yes, but just because you heard that “jack of all trades” line, doesn’t mean you can’t achieve this in many different areas—especially when you know how to learn efficiently.
Besides, it’s gratifying to become undefinable.

Quote of The Week
I'm not a jack of all trades; I'm a master of many. I don't feel there is anything I can't do if I want to.
Thanks for reading, everyone. Hope you enjoy your weekend.
